La Breve storia dell’arte qui ristampata ha visto la luce quasi quarant’anni fa e perciò va ormai considerata un pezzo d’antiquariato: tanto per la sua oggettiva ‘antichità’ quanto per la sua impostazione scolastico-accademica, in parte dovuta al tempo in cui è stata redatta e in parte, anzi soprattutto, all’immaturità dell’autore. Siccome i pezzi d’antiquariato non si possono aggiornare, l’appendice che il lettore troverà a pagina 269, va considerata una semplice aggiunta; dovrebbe servire a ricordare che gli ultimi quarant’anni non sono passati invano tanto per le vicende artistiche vere e proprie quanto per gli studi ad esse relativi, nonché per l’atteggiamento della cittadinanza nei confronti dell’arte. Direi che nel quadro generale quest’ultimo fatto è davvero molto rilevante, e fa ben sperare per il futuro (P. G. Pasini).

Luogo dell’estate e del divertimento per antonomasia, l’altra faccia di Rimini è invece quella di una quieta dama dell’arte, cui l’obbligo delle committenze e la suscettibilità alle mode forestiere che si sono susseguite nel tempo non hanno impedito di vedere la nascita di capolavori della pittura e dell’architettura. E questo scrigno dei tesori – da Giotto a Demos Bonini, passando per Piero Della Francesca, Cagnacci e Guercino – apparentemente caotico, ma in fondo fortemente connotato, ci viene aperto e raccontato, sia pure sotto forma di “appunti”, dal suo massimo conoscitore: Pier Giorgio Pasini. Il percorso si snoda con chiarezza ed essenzialità, coadiuvato da “ipertesti”a cura di Loris Pellegrini che sottolineano particolari e approfondiscono connessioni, a partire dalle opere di produzione romana – primo tra tutti l’Arco di Augusto – per giungere al primo novecento, periodo in cui si assiste ad una sosta della creazione artistica vera e propria: durante la seconda Guerra, infatti, Rimini viene completamente rasa al suolo e da quel momento in poi l’impegno fondamentale sarà quello di “recuperare” la propria storia artistica. In quest’ottica l’appendice che illustra il Museo della Città, composta nello stesso stile del testo che la precede, è una vera e propria “guida” e potrà essere un valido contributo a chi, arrivato a Rimini, dopo il sole, la spiaggia e il buon vino, voglia gustarne anche i preziosi tesori d’arte. ...continua acquistando il PDF

My art history outline, reprinted here, first appeared nearly forty years ago. It is thus something of an item in an antiques catalogue, both because of its antiquity and the scholastic-academic approach, partially due to the period in which it was written, and, even more so, to its author’s youthful inexperience. Seeing that antiques cannot be updated, the appendix (see p. 269) should simply be seen as an addition. It should be a reminder of the fact that the last forty years have not passed in vain, both from the viewpoint of the artistic environment and research concerning it, as well as local people’s attitude to art. In my view, generally speaking, this last aspect is of great importance and augurs well for the future (P. G. Pasini).

Rimini is the summer seaside resort, but it has another face: that of a peaceful artistic oasis, which has not been prevented from giving birth to masterpieces of painting and sculpture, despite requirements of commissioners and whims of outside fashions over time. And this treasure house – from Giotto to Demos Bonini, by way of Piero della Francesca, Cagnacci and Guercino – only in appearance chaotic, but actually with its own specific characteristics, is opened up for us and recounted, albeit in “note” form, by the leading local specialist: Pier Giorgio Pasini. The itinerary is very clearly laid out, with the aid of “hypertexts” highlighting details and going deeper into links, starting with Roman works – especially the Arch of Augustus – up to the early 20th century, a period which saw a pause in the flow of artistic creativity. During the 2nd World War Rimini was completely razed to the ground and all efforts from then on concentrated on salvaging the town’s art history. From this viewpoint, the appendix/update on the Town Museum, written in the same style as the text it follows, is a real guide and will be of considerable use to anyone arriving in Rimini who, after sun bathing, the beach and a glass of good wine, is also keen on enjoying the surviving works of art the town still has to offer...to be continued buying the PDF
